Never Mispronounce a Spell

Overshadowed by her brilliant older siblings, Ana, a Puerto Rican American, is determined to excel at Muirven School of Mystic Sciences in Scotland. When the School Spell Competition arrives, Ana knows this is her chance to show the world what she can do. Tragically, she mispronounces a word and accidentally binds herself to her school rival, the condescending and obnoxiously handsome Lord Hugh Thornby. Stuck together, the pair must learn to get along or drive each other up the yellow wallpaper.

  • Lord Thornby offered me his arm. I glared at him. Was he really going to escort me the three feet to my desk? The entire class stared at us. I sighed and took his elbow. He leaned toward me and whispered, "I believe a free pain au chocolat will taste even better than usual." I sniffed. "I'm happy for you." He tsked. "No, you're not. You want to strangle me." "That is completely irrelevant."

  • "Your hand is on my pants," I accused. "It is not." "It's right there on my pants." I gripped the side of his shirt, wrinkling it. For once, he wouldn't look perfect. He leaned closer. "You mean trousers. My hand is on your trousers." His words wrapped around me, his breath warm on my ear. I paused. Our chests pressed tight. I swallowed my next breath. "What are pants to you?"

  • “I have to finish this.” I sat down, grateful for an excuse to look away from his tempting smile. “Perhaps one day I will be ranked above homework,” Hugh teased. “Hmm…that’s aiming rather high.”
